It takes energy to get things done–agree? Always alert for strategies to build home based business income, and share best-practices in work-from-home business ideas, I recommend a terrific blog post that I found: Where Is Your Internet Marketing Energy Going?. I wanted to comment on it and suggest that you read it too.
I like the way author, Internet blogger, trainer and entrepreneur, Kathleen Gage thinks. She reminds all of us that the way we think plays the single biggest role in how or whether our online home businesses (or any businesses for that matter) achieve the success and results that we want. What we think or believe determines what we do, and what we do–how we focus our energy–determines the outcomes we experience.
It isn’t rocket science, as they say: but you’d think it was–or even even harder, given how likely we are to sabotage our own results–without even realizing it.
She makes an excellent point–and one we can take to the bank–about the old 80/20 rule. That is, 80% of what we get, is a result of only about 20% of what we do. When we take the time and focus our energy on those things that are actually leading to the results we seek, we hold within our power the possibility of changing those numbers and seeing more of what we want to see–more leads, more buyers, more followers, more traffic…a better bottom line.
Kathleen hits the nail on the head by pointing out that many of us (online business owners, or business owners marketing online) spend more time developing and posting content and “stocking the store,” than we do actually marketing; that is, promoting and doing the daily activity that will actually put our businesses, our brands, our services and products out in front of as many targeted buyers and searchers as possible.

I would add that there are two profound reasons that so many Internet marketers (especially newbies) fall into this trap and end up with ‘underwhelming’ results. The main one being that there is a general lack of understanding and skill among online marketers about HOW to market online. It isn’t enough to have a website or blog; it isn’t enough to be socially active on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc; it isn’t enough to write great articles and make cool videos. It isn’t even enough to do ALL of those things (and yes, those are all critically important things to do…).
It is ABOUT knowing HOW to promote and distribute all those things so that they get in front of the people who are actually looking for what you have. Knowing how to do that, and do it effectively, is what MARKETING is all about. When you really know how to market online and leverage the power of the Internet you will see your online business grow and thrive.
It is not magic, it is method. Method can be learned.
